Walk Information
Start - Alvechurch Station (30 minutes from New Street - trains every half an hour on a Saturday)
Finish - Longbridge Station
Alvechurch and Longbridge are on the same rail line. It is possible to start this walk at Alvecurch Station (free parking) and get the train back from Longbridge.
Geocaches - We found 11 on the day. There are more slightly off route on the Lickey Hills.
Notes from The Field - Mappiman's Blog
Distance - 8.4 miles
Refreshments - Cafe at the Lickey Hills Golf Course. The Oak Tree Pub before Cofton Park. New Sainsburys, opposite Longbridge station, has a cafe.
Terrain - Initially flat on canal paths, steep climb and decent of the Lickey Hills. You will thank me when you get to the top. Final mile alongside busy road to get to the station.
Walk Information
Every walk needs a place to start. I have chosen to start the Brummie Ring here for two reasons. The reason that it is important to you is because it provides an excellent view of the remainder of the walk. You can see what you are about to achieve. The reason that is important to me is because its the closest to where I live.
So here we go on one of the longer stretches of the Brummie Ring, starting in North East Worcestershire.
We don't get to see much of Alvechurch, heading straight for the Birmingham to Worcester Canal. Nice and flat and gently getting you into the pace. Don't worry - we will be celebrating here in 65 miles time.
We make our way between the Bittel Reservoirs, before picking up the North Worcestershire path to climb the Lickey Hills. There is an option to miss out on the really steep bit, but you will be cheating yourself out of the most impressive views of Birmingham on the route.
Having soaked in the views and regained your breath, we drop down to Cofton Park and then walk around the perimeter of the old car plant, for which Longbridge gained international recognition.
