Apologies, there is not a lot of interest on this section. You're really in for it if you don't like canals. And like all urban canals, this comes with gaggles of tramps drinking extremely strong lager, feral kids on motorbikes with no helmets and an awful lot of rubbish. Including the ubiquitous shopping trolley in the canal.
BCN Main line
The first part of the walk is along the BCN Main Line. This canal links Birmingham Gas Street basin to Wolverhampton. It was built following an act of parliament on 24th February 1768.
Walsall canal
This canal meets the BCN Main Line after it merges with the Wednesbury Old Canal. It was built in four stages from 1785 and drives through the black country heartland. We walk the most interesting section of 8 locks at Ryder's green, where the canal drops to the 408ft Walsall level, with the River Tame running alongside.
