Sutton Coldfield Station
Follow the signs from the station for the town centre. Walk down Victoria Road and turn left, climbing up Trinity Hill. At the church, you could follow the signs to explore the historic high street, but if you are following the walk, then head straight down Rectory Road to enter the park. Cross the park by keeping a straight line eastwards - crossing football pitches. You should emerge on Hollyfield Road on a short path next to a church. Turn right, then at the crossroads, left into Reddicap Heath Road. There is a pub here and another one, the Anvil, as we enter the real Warwickshire countryside.
The Anvil Pub
Straight over the roundabout. This marks the end of the housing. We are on the Ox Leys Road, which is a country lane with good verges to escape the traffic. Cross the A38 Bypass and take the first right, Bulls Lane, heading south. Follow this all the way to Over Green, where you will see the Cock Inn Pub.
The Cock Inn
Our footpath is in the car park, to the right of the pub. At last, we emerge into real countryside with extensive views. Follow the footpath to the duck pond at Wishaw, where we pick up a lane for a short distance, before turning right onto a footpath. Follow this south, crossing Blindpit Lane, and continue in the same direction until we meet the Birmingham and Fazely Canal. Look to your right for some great views to the City Centre. We cross the canal on the top of Curdworth Tunnel, where we follow a series of narrow alleys through the industrial zone around Curdworth. Cross the lane and look for the footpath to the right of Curdworth First School. Follow this around the school perimeter and eventually you will be delivered into more fields.
Marsh Lane
When you hit the lane, climb the steps and head left on Marsh Lane. This crosses around 13 lanes of the M42 and M6 Toll Road. Some horrendous walking now. My OS Map say this is Newlands Farm but Newland has sold out to DHL, White Arrow and Wincanton. We have a huge industrial complex to navigate but it is signed to Coleshill Parkway. Cross the first roundabout carefully and follow the grass verge of a dual carriageway to the next roundabout where we turn right. Thankfully, we are on a proper footpath/cycleway now which you can follow all the way to the station. If you look carefully, there is an unsigned public footpath on the right at a metal gate, with squeeze room for humans. This will add a bit of short cut and variety. At the bottom on the bank, ignore the sign to Lea Marston and continue in the same direction on the metalled track. This will allow you to cross the River Tame before delivering you at the station. Unfortunately it is next to the sewage farm and proper hums.
