Wednesbury Parkway Station
A little bit of road walking to pick up the Canal. Walk through the car park at Wednesbury Parkway and turn left, following the cycle path that runs underneath the roundabout. We are aiming East, so if we bear right, we should emerge at Dudley Street, with a Mecca Bingo Hall on out right.
At the next roundabout, turn right onto Holyhead Road. We need to walk for 3/4 of a mile down this main road before picking up the Tame Valley Canal.
Tame Valley Canal
Couldn't be easier from now on. Turn left and head East along the canal. The canal is elevated, first passing football pitches down on the left and then running over a series of aqueducts, with the main one being over the M5 Slip Road onto the M6.
A little further on, we have our only navigational decision to make. The canal splits with a handy sign post, with the Catshill branch going left and the Salford junction Branch going right. We need to take the Salford Junction direction. Immediately cross on the next bridge to the right hand side of the canal. This is important, as we need to be on this side to make our exit. This exit is in one and half miles. There is no sign on the bridge to aid navigation. We are at the Old Walsall Road, with huge advertising boards to the right the Dyas chippy to the left. Go down the bank and follow the Old Walsall road downhill to Hamstead station or the number 16 bus stop.
