Cobb's Engine house
Built in 1831 to pump water from the mines in the area. It is now a grade II listed building and soon to be nominated as an ancient building. It makes the end of our canal walking and a chance for refreshment at the Bumble Hole Visitor Centre.
Dudley Castle
If you are new to the area, you will not quite believe you eyes on this walk. We have a section of urban road walking from Dixon's Green right into the centre of Dudley. And there on the hill, dominating the skyline, is a proper old school castle.
You can take in 1300 years of history as you walk past Poundland. A wooden castle first existed here in the 8th Century and after several sackings and the rebuidlings, the place remained habitable until fire in 1750.

black country museum
Our walk goes straight past the Black Country Museum and and associated attractions. This is a living museum and you can wander around the village to sample life from the 1700s to early 1900s. My daughter insists on regular visits. She has no interest in the history and simply likes the chips.
On the walk, we tried to take in this stretch of the canal. They run canal tours into the tunnels. I had an interesting discussion with the lady who works in the cafe. She was right, there is a metal gate blocking public access.

The tipton slasher
I have been looking forward to this since the idea of the Brummie Ring was born.
William Perry (1820 - 1879) was a bare knuckle prize fighter of some repute. He was noted for having a hard man physique, who's frame was not diminished for nights of hard drinking. Not totally dissimilar to the creator of the Brummie Ring. His first recorded major fight was a 70 round bout against a 7ft American which ended in a draw.
The statue is in the Park on Owen Street. Opposite the road is the Fountain Inn, where there are two plaques detailing this was where he held court and was his "head quarters". They do an excellent pint of Banks.
